Gigable is a marketplace that makes it easy for independent freelance workers to find shifts with local businesses in their area. Businesses use Gigable to find local freelance workers for a wide range of jobs across the hospitality and events industries. The jobs include delivery drivers, kitchen porters, waiters, event stewards, security guards, warehouse operatives and more. By combining a powerful feature rich platform with an ever growing network of thousands of talented gig workers, Gigable is becoming a leader in the on-demand staffing industry.

Gigable’s platform goes beyond just matching gig workers with potential shifts. Gigable also provides businesses and gig workers with the tools and technology they need to perform their duties. This includes tools to check-in and out of shifts, integrated payments and invoicing, live tracking maps and delivery management software. In addition to this, Gigable provides gig workers with access to leading worker benefits, providing workers in the gig economy with much needed assurances and protections to perform their work. The Business Need

Having accurate location data is crucial for Gigable. Delivery drivers need optimized routes and merchants need to know where their drivers are at all times. Similarly, Security and events companies need to know where their staff are so they can react to any situation. Having reliable location based data, including when and where staff were when they clock in and out of their shifts, is essential in creating a platform built on trust and transparency.

Early on, Gigable realized that granular tracking was extremely important. The team was missing valuable information about when orders were picked up and when workers would arrive at job sites. At the same time, clients and customers were often unclear about ETAs and delays of orders. It became clear that solving for location would reap rewards in the form of clarity for operations teams and increased customer loyalty. Leadership at Gigable became focused on improving how they used location within their tech stack.

This prompted the team to engage a partner who had expertise in combining mobile technology, cloud infrastructure and mapping solutions. Upon finding HyperTrack and working with the solution team, Gigable was introduced to important features that would propel their platform to the next level. By working closely together, the teams were able to design a roadmap that would give Gigable the functionality needed to provide more transparency and visibility to each job or order on their platform.

The Solution

Driver SDK  to accurately track the location of the driver during shifts

By having the ability to document travel in real time, operations teams are able to capture the location of drivers or gig workers and share this with all necessary parties. By giving customers and clients key information about the location of drivers and workers, operations teams can easily find and resolve errors and answer questions about delays and ETAs.

Geofences  to automate detection of arrival to customer sites

Geofences allow the Gigable ops teams to have detailed information about specifics during orders and job assignments. For instance, in an order fulfillment context, ops teams know how long an order took to complete, including details of the time it takes for someone to pick up an order and wait time at pick up locations. For shift work use cases, geofences allow workers to check in to locations to begin assignments.

Since the operations teams have the location data throughout the fulfillment process, HyperTrack allows streams of this data to be presented on dashboards. By receiving this data through webhook streams, Gigable ops teams can see workers on a map in real-time.

These solutions provided a core foundation for the team to build the custom workflows that fit the business needs of Gigable’s client base, operations teams and pool of gig workers.

In the future, the team will continue to develop on a path toward more visibility and increased transparency with the assistance of location data. Improving the customer experience with SMS links or giving ops teams the ability to replay previous gigs are ideas that the team could pursue. With these solutions in place the team has options to consider a host of innovations that leverage the rich location data that is generated with each order.

The Result

Handling location is fundamental to performance in the on-demand economy. By using HyperTrack’s APIs to build technology to streamline all location related functions within their stack, the team was able to see immediate benefits. Despite the lean org structure of the Gigable engineering team, they are able to deliver the type of functionality that their largest competitors like Uber and Doordash can deliver to their customers.

By implementing HyperTrack, the team was able to build mobile applications that make it easy for drivers to document their activities in the field, such that customer-facing teams can see exactly when and where an order was fulfilled. The team was able to build this transparency into all aspects of the fulfillment process. Whether a worker is enroute to an assignment or checked out of an assignment at a client site, this information is available to operations teams via custom embeddable dashboards with real-time data from webhooks.

By using the above APIs, SDKs, and webhooks clients could use data in real-time and in retrospect to accelerate activities in the field or make better decisions for subsequent orders and assignments.
